Out of Darkness Rising Cover Options

Isn't it amazing how life moves along at the pace of a sluggish backwater swamp and then all of the sudden races along at the speed of a white water rapid?  Right now, it feels like I'm caught in the midst of the rapids and it is a wild and thrilling ride!

The time has come to settle upon a final cover for my novella Out of Darkness Rising!  Scott Appleton, the proprietor of Flaming Pen Press asked me to post two cover options here on my blog and gather reader votes on which is the preferred cover!

So, I'm asking all of you to glance over the two covers and vote on which cover you like the most.  Which one would be most likely to stop and pick up if you saw it on the bookshelf?  What catches your eye?  I will put a poll in the right side bar of my blog, but feel free to leave a comment as well with your opinion!  And please, get the word out.  If you have any friends who enjoy reading, ask them to stop by and let me know what they think about the cover!

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!  My goal this week: Finish re-editing Out of Darkness Rising (in between college classes of course) and continue work on editing Song of Leira!

OPTION B

  1. My mother and I both say Option A :] Looks amazing, by the way! Who designed it?

  2. I like the second one better, but it seems to cover up the artist's signature

  3. I like option A because of the font for your name.

  4. I prefer Option B, with your name in the foreground straight across the foreground. Option A was good too, but in my opinion having your name almost as part of the picture slanting at an angle like that just gave it somewhat of a comic book or 50s movie cover feel.

  5. Nate Taylor and I both vote for option A. Also, we're both way excited to see this cover in the bookstores.... and then of course reading it.

  6. Option B. Your name on Option A, when I first saw it a while ago, always struck me as strange-looking with the title of the novel. The second one also has a cooler font. :D Book titles usually have straight font on the author's name, so Option B strikes me as more professional. It also lets us see more of the artwork.

  7. Both covers are great - but prefer the second option with name across the bottom - just reads better. Can't wait to hold final copy!

Love hearing from y'all, so please join the conversation! All I ask is that you keep all comments friendly with the goal of starting enjoyable conversations about fantasy and good books with other novel lovers! Overly negative comments will be banished to the netherworld and the less than pleasant company of the various balrogs, trolls, and monsters already imprisoned there.
